AD&D 2nd Edition » New SpellsDu Traval's Main-gauche of Binding Spell Level: 5 School: Evocation, Alteration Range: Self Components: V, S, M Duration: 1 round per level Casting Time: 3 Area of Effect: Special Saving Throw: Special Another of Du Traval's Main-gauche spells, this version creates a 2-foot-long blade of magical force, which is ruby with silver streaking along the blade. It is wielded as a melee weapon, usually in the left hand, the caster striking as a Fighter of equal level for 1 attack per round. A struck creature suffers 1 point of damage for every 2 levels of the caster, plus bonuses if any. There is no Saving Throw for this portion of the effect. The struck creature then gets a chance to make a Save vs. Spells, at a -1 penalty for every 4 levels of experience of the caster. If successful, the struck creature takes no additional damage. If it fails its Save, the Main-gauche of Binding snaps from the caster's hand and elongates, becoming a chain of ruby energy that wraps itself around the struck creature. Its arms are pinned at its sides, legs are similarly trapped, and any other appendages; wings, tails, and so forth are also confined. Once bound the creature is wracked by unbearable pain, suffering 1d6 points of damage per round until the binding is released. Once bound, the struck creature is unable to do anything. The binding lasts for as many rounds as the caster has levels, and even when the spell expires and the chain vanishes, the creature continues to suffer from wracking pain 1d4 rounds. As a result of this pain it will fall to the ground, writhing in agony. In addition the creature loses 2 points of Strength for 24 hours. Damage from this spell cannot be healed by magical means, only rest will allow the creature to regain lost hit points. |
