AD&D 2nd Edition » New SpellsFire Shield Spell Level: 4 School: Abjuration Range: Caster or Touch Components: V, S, M Duration: 2 rounds / level Casting Time: 3 Area of Effect: Caster or Creature Touched Saving Throw: None This spell creates a clear shiny force field around the caster, or a touched creature. This force field molds itself to the subject. It covers them, & anything they're wearing or touching (excluding walls, floors & other such things). All that is in this force field is completely protected from fire & it's heat; both magical & natural fires. Once this spell is cast, anything the subject touches, is also covered with the force field. However, if it was previously touched by fire & was heated up, it retains that heat until cooled. Thus, if someone walked into a burning & building & picked up a sword that'd been sitting there, the searing metal would still burn them. But once inside the force field, it would no longer gather heat from the fire & would begin to cool down. The material component for this is a small glass ball that turns into the force field. If the caster ends the spell before the duration ends, the ball will be fine. But if the spell is still in effect when the spell duration ends, the force field disappears & the glass ball shatters. |
