AD&D 2nd Edition » New SpellsDharen's Deception Spell Level: 1 School: Alteration Range: Touch Components: V, S Duration: One attempt Casting Time: 1 Area of Effect: Self, or creature touched Saving Throw: Special Dharen Graycloak was a reasonably powerful mage, but in truth an inept and clumsy thief. He developed this spell in an attempt to aid him in picking pockets. When cast, this spell allows the caster to attempt to pick the pocket of the target creature. The spell gives the caster the ability to reach into a pocket and slip something out, cut a purse or pouch, slip a brooch or ring from a person, or any similar technique. The move is flawless in itself, but there is more to pilfering than just the move. A good thief knows how to approach a mark, how to look inconspicuous, and further how to walk away and leave the mark unsuspecting. The spell gives an 85% chance of success, plus 1% for every level beyond first that the caster possesses. In addition the spell gets a bonus of +1% for each point of Intelligence the caster possesses above 13. The would-be thief should roll percentile dice, a success and he has filched the item in question, a failure indicates the attempt is notice. There is no normal Saving Throw allowed, only this percentile roll on the part of the character. However, the would-be thief lacks the experience and training of a true master thief, and is just as likely to steal a wrapped sandwich, small book, soiled linen handkerchief, or similarly worthless item as he is to get away with a pouch of gold or gems. |
