It requires a gemstone of no less than 100 g.p.v., which serves as a storage cell for the Combatant. The Combatant is a creation of the caster's mind, but can be based on an actual being. The caster must scribe the statistics, abilities, spell knowledge, and favored tactics and reactions of the Combatant then burn the parchment and scatter the ashes over the gemstone, while casting the spell. When a particular gemstone is held and the spell is cast again, the Combatant appears. If the caster is holding the gemstone he may control the Combatant, otherwise it fights independently (under the DM's control). The Combatant lasts until killed (its phantom hit points are reduced to 0) or it is dispelled by the will of the caster. Most Combatants are mages of varying level of power (based upon Collin Erikson's actual students), but warriors and even monsters and Dragons are known to exist. |
