Avasir's Whirling Wall
By:

Spell Level: 6

School: Evocation

Range: Self

Components: V, S

Duration: 5 rounds per level

Casting Time: 4

Area of Effect: Special

Saving Throw: Special

This powerful spell creates a whirling barrier of mithril steel plates that circle the caster at a high rate of speed. Creates 4 plates per level of the caster. Each plate grants a +1 bonus to the caster's Armor Class (to a maximum AC of -10), however, additional plates are not wasted. Any melee attack that would breech the caster's AC can be parried at the cost of one plate. Direct magical attacks may also be parried in this manner, but area effect or mind- affecting spells are unaffected. Beings who try to directly attack the caster (come within a 10-foot-radius of the caster) suffer 1d6+1 hit points of battering damage per round of exposure to the spinning plates. In addition the caster can hurl the plates at opponents, striking as a Fighter of equal level (with bonuses of high Dexterity if applicable). The caster can launch one attack per round, firing off anywhere from 1 to 8 plates in a volley attack at a single target that does 1d4+1 damage per plate. Save vs. Spells for half damage if the attack is successful, otherwise the attack is treated as a grenade-like missile for hit determination.
