Anime » Cardcaptor Sakura » ReviewsCCS vs CC CCS vs CC... What's the difference? You might ask yourself...? CCS - Cardcaptor Sakura, is the original Japanese anime series. While CC - Cardcaptors, is the American-english dub. So, which of the 2 is better? Let's compare them shall we...? Apart from the obvious name/voice changes, CCS and CC seem very much alike... on the surface. CC's plot/story-line is very basic - to capture the Clow Cards and defeat enemies, while CCS leads a much thicker tale. Aswell as capturing cards, Sakura's character is depicted very emotionally involved, relating to other characters, e.g her friendships and crushes. On CC, Sakura's personality is un-stereotyped and difficult to capture. Her voice is very irritating too. She has no relationship with Julian (Yukito) or Li (Syaoran) like in the CCS series. Many scenes in which Sakura and Li would bond were cut out or re-worded. E.g- the scene where Li confesses his love for Sakura is edited, and instead, a conversation about the Clow Cards is replaced. Not only is Sakura's character darastically changed, but many of the other characters too. Characters who's sexuality is questioned in CCS was not edited in CC, but pathetically brushed off with rediculous excuses. E.g- Li, who supposedly had a cruch on Julian, would act strangely around him. In 1 scene where the 2 were walking side-by-side, Li was red in the face and walking stiffly. Through a conversation between Sakura and Maddison (Tomoyo), they announced Li was practicing for a marching band, that suprisingly, was never mentioned ever again in the series. Another huge factor that confused the Western audience was the cancellation of any motion pictures. This perplexed CC viewers due to Sakura having new Clow Cards unknowingly, e.g - The Arrow, The Wave, The Bubbles... and the ending of the 2nd and final season was disgusting - Sakura created her own Clow Card, named The Hope (which should have been for the CCS 2nd Movie), and with no explanation, the screen faded to black. CC is a very bad attempt at re-capturing the goodness of what CCS managed to create. Obviously, my vote is with CCS. What have you decided? - Aaron, Age 14. |
