Anime » Serial Experiments Lain » Reviews... and you don't seem to understand... I'll admit, I've never reviewed an anime before, so if I look like I'm a newb, I am. Ok, Lain. When I first saw this series, having seen many animes before, I thought "this will be like the rest," i.e. clichéd and fairly overplayed, though there's nothing wrong with that. I heard that it was like .hack and I expected a rip-off of it. I watched the first few episodes and I thought "what the heck is going on?" It is confusing. Admit it. It makes Evangelion look simple. After seeing all 13 eps., I still was dazed and confused. I started thinking "what happened to so-and-so (trying to avoid spoilers)?" and "what happens now?" I started thinking, and I realized: this is the intention of the series, to get you to think. You never know what happens to... certain characters. The ambiguity will drive you crazy. It's like the Scarlet Letter, at first it looks like crap, but when you dig deeper, it becomes good. You can decide what happens. The plot was very ambiguous, and all the better. Stuff happened that was unexplainable, but happened anyway. A very deep, both intellectually and physically, storyline shows through in Lain. Characters were developed nicely and completely. A few jokes every now and then helped. In the end, Lain is a good series. I recommend it to all who love anime. ...I am falling... ...I am fading... ...Help me to breathe... |
