Anime » Cowboy Bebop » ReviewsPleased to meet you, hope you guess my name. Cowboy Bebop. A strange name, but do not let it deceive you. This is the best anime that you will ever find, and I use the term anime lightly. This superb example of Japanese animation, does not fall victim to the pitfalls most anime do. The animation is superb, which is a very refreshing point about it since many popular anime have horrible animation, and there aren't many still frames. God knows how tired we must have grown seeing an unmoving image of Goku mumbling to himself about beating his enemies. The dialogue is superb, very mature and life-like, unlike rival anime. But the best part is how mature the show is. While there are a few scenes that Edward becomes very annoying the show never sinks to scripts that seem to be written by 4th graders. The scripting is always amazing. One scene in Real Folk Blues part 1 features Vicious cutting his sword across someone's face, and as he does, he says. "And may you shed tears of scarlet." That is my favorite scene from the whole series. While the episodes usually don't have continuity from one to the next (until the last few) each episode reveals a little more about one or more of the characters, whom are very deep. They are... Spike (first introduced in Session 1 "Asteroid Blues"): A bounty hunter. Main protagonist of the series. Most peoples favorite (not mine however). Spike's past is examined the most throughout the show. Jet (first introduced in Session 1 "Asteroid Blues"): Spike's partner. He owns the Bebop that the crew travel about the universe in. Also a bounty hunter, he is the other of the first two introduced in the show. I feel Jet was the protagonist character in the series, but was almost completely ignored. Much much more could have been done with his character. I think perhaps a Jet/Vicious confrontation would have been amazing. Ein (First introduced in Session 2 "Stray Dog Strut"): Ein is a high tech data dog that Spike and Jet acquired from a lost bounty, Abdul Hakim. Faye (First introduced in Session 3 "Honky Tonk Women"): Faye is not your typical woman. She's got it all, beauty, brains, and balls, figuratively speaking. Many times she tries to escape the Bebop, leaving Spike and Jet in tough spots, only to come back later. Edward (First introduced in Session 9 "Jammin' with Edward"): Edward is a super smart hacker. Edward is also a little girl. She provides information and (unnecessary) comic relief. Julia (Unsure of first introduction): Julia is Spikes long lost love. Spike, Julia, and Vicious all worked side by side at one point. Vicious (First introduced in Session 5 "Ballad of the Fallen Angels": The most amazing character in the series. He is the antagonist. There's not much I can say about him, he is to great to be described by words. Overall if you are looking for an amazing anime, that transcends and destroys all precedents and boundaries previously set, then look here. Cowboy Bebop will not disappoint anyone, I am confident. |
