I Need You By My Side
By:
Silence fills the air at night. The dark and cold moon gazes down, Shines on me her heartless light As fearful as a kingless crown. The room in which I sleep at night Is howling like the sky that's dead. When you come in you're struck by fright; This is no place to rest your head. And shapes and forms are moving round; I hope they cannot reach me. I try so hard to make no sound. All a nightmare! This can't be! My shaking hand reaches out, I try lighting the lamp. But my hopes are thrown about: A candle lights up damp. A face behind the candle hides; I’m scared it will consume me. A view as soothing as calm tides: It's you that gazes on me. Your eyes say: "What is wrong, my dear?" Worried for my sanity. And as you come to me so near, Your warmth is blessed reality. And then your smile understands I need you by my side. As the ocean does the lands, You caress like a tide. Sleep is silent and so sweet; Nightmares leave without a trace. You and me in Dreamland meet: Heaven spills on us its grace.
