Back to Life

By:

A bright light to catch,
And a dark tunnel to walk through.
A voice calling my name,
Trying to bring me back.
With a jolt of electricity
I'm shocked back to life.
My eyes open and my blood spills out.
This must be the Red Sea.
A giggle escapes.
What a time to be amused,
But quickly I'm in pain again.
A speeding pace to make it to the base.
Where are my memories?
Where is my life to flash before my eyes?
Red and white lights glaring.
The sound of sirens screaming in my ears.
Hands pass over me, trying to fix what's broken.
I try to tell them its useless,
I'll always be broken.
Impersonal voices discuss my condition.
What condition? What happened to me?
Latex gloves, breathing tubes, the smell of blood.
An ambulance.
Unbearable pain makes it hard to concentrate,
But then I remember.
The pills that I used to forget all the sadness,
The broken glass used to write my final farewell,
My anguished cries as I slit my skin.
I close my eyes to escape,
But inside I'll always be broken.
