AD&D 2nd Edition » Magical ItemsOmen Blade This weapon can't be categorized as just one simple item like a two-handed sword or long sword. This weapon is capable of being three different bladed weapons. Regardless of which bladed weapon it becomes it will always have the same look to it. The blade is made of white opal and has a razor sharp edge, the hilt is made of mythril and the quillons curve slightly upward toward the blade. The first of the three is a dagger with a +1 enchantment. While it's in the dagger form it can be thrown at a target twice a round for normal damage. The omen blade will return automatically to the wielder even if the throw misses the target. The second form is a short sword with a +2 enchantment. As a short sword each strike receives an additional +3 points of heat damage. Creatures weak against heat/fire take double damage (+6) but creatures immune to heat/fire wont be harmed by this function but still take damage from the blade. It should be noted that the blade is not engulfed in fire but is heated much like a needle that has been held in a flame. The last form of the Omen blade is a bastard sword with a +3 enchantment. If the bastard sword form is held above the wielders head an impenetrable shield of force with a dull blue glow will appear. This will last for 1 turn per day and can be split up from round to round. The Omen blade can also point in directions to keep the wielder from being lost. Whether the wielder is on land, at sea, or even underground the Omen blade can point in the compass direction asked. Three times per day the spell ‘Clairevoyence’ can be activated by the wielder. |
