This powerful magical item is often mistaken for the Argent Clasp Feather Token. Both seem to be made of silver, but the Mage's Clasp is in reality mithril and graven with eldritch runes of power. It is in the form of a linked pair of arms holding a traveling spell book. The crosspiece is a small, adamantium staff. When worn the clasp's powers may be activated by a simple act of will.
Powers:
- Grants 10% Magic Resistance (or add this amount to existing resistance), this power is constant in effect.
- Grants the wearer a +2 bonus on all Saving Throws vs. Spells, this power is constant in effect.
- Can enact a Ray of Distraction 3 times per day. This causes a scintillating wave of energy to burst from the bearer's hand and fly toward the target creature. Its purpose is to disrupt or distract a spell caster before he can finish casting a spell. The wave has a range of 250 feet, as it strikes the target it bursts into sudden, brilliant rainbow of light, produces a loud peal of thunder, and emits a small wave of mystic force. All of these effects cause the struck creature to make a Saving Throw vs. Spells and an Intelligence check (both at a -6 penalty). If either of these fails the targeted caster has his or her spell disrupted and lost. If this spell strikes a caster who is not in the process of casting a spell, he still may not cast a spell in the round he was struck.
- Can enact a Spell Blast 3 times per day. This spell disrupts the spell of one enemy wizard. When cast an invisible ray of force flies from the bearer to a target wizard. The caster must have better initiative than the wizard whose spell he wants to disrupt. No Saving Throw is allowed for the Spell Blast. The casting wizard is aware who destroyed his spell. The wizard still expends the power needed to cast the spell, but it is effectively shorted out-the spell structure is disrupted and crumbles in a shower of sparks and crackling energy.
- Can enact a Gabrielle's Minor Reflection 3 times per day. As this spell is cast a brief shimmering aura appears around the caster. For up to 20 rounds the caster is protected against all ranged magical attacks (e.g. Rays, Beams, Magic Missiles, and so forth). Any such attack cast at a being so protected is reflected back at the original caster.
- Can enact a Dampen Other's Magic spell 3 times per day. This spell creates a 100-foot-radius sphere around the wearer, in which all magical effects have double their normal cost (Saving those of the bearer of course). The dampening field moves with the caster. Example: A wizard trying to cast a Second Level Spell when within the field would have to expend 4 Spell Levels to cast the Second Level Spell. Effects which would "pass through" the sphere, but whose caster and target are not within the sphere are unaffected by the dampening. The wizard can feel the dampening field if it comes into contact with him, and is aware of the field as soon as he begins casting a spell on a target within.
- Can enact a Gabrielle's Mystic Aura spell 3 times per day. This creates an invisible Mystic Aura around the caster. It moves with the caster and prevents all Magic User spells (and spell-like abilities) of 6th level or less, and all Clerical spells (including Druid spells and spell-like abilities) of 5th level or less, from having any effect on the caster. The caster can, however, cast spells and wield magical items normally (even on herself, within the Aura); this usage has no effect on the Aura. To physical attacks and senses, the Aura does not exist. A magical blade striking the caster inflicts only physical damage: any magical damage, attack bonuses, or magical effects are negated.
