Circlets of Linking
Misc. Magical Items
By:
These magical items always come in matched pairs, are always solid gold circlets, and once worn may only be removed by the wearer. They only work when worn by two beings that are spell casters. If worn by non-spell casters they are only ornamental jewelry. If the wearers are spell users, however, the power of the Circlets links the two spell casters irrevocably and until death. Originally created by Elven Magic Users to bond those who were husbands and wives. Down through the ages they have passed out of Elven hands and into the world at large. Now they are sought after by spell casters that seek to take advantage of the Circlets powers.
Possess the following powers:
- Each caster knows the other caster's full range of "known" and memorized spells. Further, each caster may use the other's spell knowledge, even if they would normally be restricted by class.
- If within sight, each may draw upon the other's Spell Levels, with the mental permission of the other caster.
- Each caster's Save vs. Spells is cumulative with the other's (e.g. Caster A gains a +2 bonus to Save vs. Spells as a character ability and Caster B wears a Ring of Protection +1; both casters would have a +3 bonus to Save vs. Spells)
- The Circlets provide 15% Magic Resistance to both casters; however, any spell cast be either caster upon the other always works, no Save.
- The Circlets also provide limited Telepathy (line-of-sight) to the wearers, to a range of 50 feet per character level, cumulative. This power works only from character to character. In addition, the Circlets allow each character to sense the presence of the other with a range of 1 mile per character level, cumulative.
- The final power of the Circlets can also be its most dangerous disadvantage. Magical effects or spells that directly affect one of the characters affects the other character equally. This power applies to both advantageous and harmful effects (e.g. if one of the characters cast a Chromatic Aura on himself, the protective power of the Aura would extend to the other character as well. Further, if one of the characters were affected by a Sleep spell the other would be affected as well. However, spells that cause direct physical damage to one of the characters does not cause damage to the other, but other affects, if any, are shared.
