Magical Rings
By:
This magical item is in the form of a heavy mithril and silver ring set with a square of ebony. It is graven with eldritch runes both inside and out and seems to radiate a palpable magical aura.
Powers:
- Renders whatever clothing worn equivalent to Plate Mail Armor +3 (AC: 0) in its protective value, but does not encumber the character any more than the clothing would. The wearer may continue to cast spells while this power is in effect.
- The wearer may create, with a simple thought, a silver and black mystic shield composed of magical energy. The shield may be mentally moved by the caster to protect any portion of her body. Area effect spells cannot be blocked unless the caster is at the center (targeted point) of the spell's area, in which case it is treated as a normal spell. The shield can absorb 60 points of magical damage before being destroyed. Magic missiles, bolts, and rays can be blocked with a successful Dexterity check, and do full damage to the Shield (any excess damage penetrates to harm the caster). Other spells do 8 points of damage to the shield per level of the spell (for example, a blocked Flesh to Stone does 48 points to the Shield; if such a spell penetrates with "excess damage", the caster saves versus its effect with a +4 bonus). The shield will not block physical attacks. A magical bolt of force, although it has a physical manifestation, is magical energy, and would be blocked. An arrow enchanted with Flame Arrow would not be blocked, but any targeting bonuses gained from magical energy (including plusses on magical arrows) are only half as effective when blocked by the shield (round down). The wearer may call the shield into being up to 6 times per day, and each manifestation has a maximum duration of 1 turn.
