About Sandar's Dimension

A brief history of Sandar's Dimension and how it came to be:

Sandar's Dimension was started in late 1999.  Why?  Because I just got my hands on a copy of Microsoft FrontPage, started messing around with it, and couldn't help but build a site.  Originally I didn't even intend it to be a live website, I was just messing around with the program, building pages on my mom's computer (lol, back in the days when we only had one computer in our house and dial-up internet--never want to go through that again).  Well, at some point I decided "hey, I've got everything for a pretty cool site, why don't I actually put it up on the web?"  So, I started looking for a free host.  Back in those days free hosts were a dime-a-dozen, but almost all had annoying pop-up ads and very little space.  But, I managed to find Xoom.com (long since dead now), which had a small non-obtrusive bar at the top instead of pop-ups and gave a reasonable amount of space.

With Xoom my site was up and running, and I actually started pulling in a pretty decent amount of visitors in no time.  However, I ran into a little trouble when they deleted my site without telling me.  They never actually told me the exact reason, only that it was something about copyrighted material.  However, just as this was happening, my sister got me a job building websites at the hosting/web service company she worked for, and they were willing to host my site for free (since I worked for them).  So, I moved it over to the new server, saved up some money, and got me my own domain (back then there weren't all these cheap domain companies you can find now).

It's been a long time since then, and Sandar's Dimension has grown quite a bit.  My sister and I now actually have our own hosting/web service company which is where the site is hosted now.  At my peak, back in maybe 2002, I was averaging nearly 400 visits a day.  That number has died down as the top site lists I was on that generated many of my hits closed and the anime that were my main draw waned in popularity.

Through much of 2004 and the first half of 2005 I didn't really update much.  I wasn't out gathering anime multimedia from other websites as I had done in the past, and things were just getting too bothersome.  So, as my sister and I split from the company we worked for to start our own hosting company, I figured I'd start with a clean slate, move over to our new servers and re-build from scratch.  Most of the same content, basically the same design, but I was doing some refining.  I was a lot better with coding than I had been in the past, and I knew how I could make things so that it would be easy for me to keep the site updated.  I also wanted to remove some old anime sections for series I really no longer had any interest in (namely Dragonball Z and Sailor Moon), as well as doing a little quality-control in the sections I was keeping--I only wanted the best content.  So, that's exactly what I did.

Not much happened to the site for a few years after that. Then, January 2010, I decided to re-build again. I had of course gotten better at coding (much, much better), so I was cleaning everything up, making sure everything was up to modern standards and making the site easier to navigate, as well as more efficient for both users and the server. Aside from the out-dated code seeming shameful to me since I could do so much better, I figured if I have everything up to date, I'd be more inspired to actually add new sections to the site. That's the plan anyway.
